Coming to Yukon set me thinking what are the activities I must do when I come here during winter, other than freezing and enjoying the -39 degrees celsius temperature? The answer is definitely dog sledding!

This was part of the package I took up at the resort in Whitehorse and the owner personally came to pick us up at the resort in a super comfortable pickup truck which could sit 4 passengers (we had 3).

When we got there, we were introduced to our sledding dogs and they were all pretty enthusiastic when we were shown around. Each dog had a name which they are identified by, so this is really cool.

Soon we got onto our sleigh, blanket all set and fastened, comfort checked and ensured and we were on our way! We started just below dawn and we could see the sunrise along the way which was beautiful. We also went along the frozen lake and the speed was not too fast (and not too slow most importantly).

The ride was very comfortable, staff extremely friendly and nice to chat with during the journey.

I would highly recommend doing this as a must when you come to Yukon.

I did the half day dog sled with Alayuk. First of all, I had to sign an agreement about safety guidelines etc, which is standard practice. I was given the choice of: 1) dog mushing by myself all the way, 2) let the guide ride the dogs halfway and then I ride the dogs on the way back or 3) just let the guide do it all the way and be a passenger. I chose option 2 as I wanted to take photos and videos but I also wanted to do the dog sled myself. The guides will also check your clothing so if you don’t have proper winter clothing, don’t worry. The guides will lend you the proper wear (pants, winter coats, gloves, hats etc).

Then, it’s time to meet the dogs! They’re all so enthusiastic and fun to play with! The guides will choose the dogs for the sledding activity. I feel really blessed to be able to do dog sled here. The views here are just incredible! Sledding through Mt. Lorne is breathtakingly beautiful. I encourage you to do the sledding yourself as it was so much fun! I can’t have enough of this! I also received a certificate at the end of the activity.

One of best experience I had!!!! Employees are soooo nice and helpful! They took me from my hotel drove like 40 mins to this wonderland! You do have chance to get to know each of dogs before and after! They will provide coats, pants, boots and gloves to keep you warm which that was really sweet! The view is incredible I took my go pro with me because it’s hard to record use your phone it was really freezing, I have recorded like an hour long so the dog sledding will take you 50 mins around, make sure you are warm, wonderful time! In the end they do offer you warm drinks and send you back. I definitely recommend this place because I’m in love with Smoky(one of the strongest and prettiest dog). ?

We had the shuttle service from our Hotel in Whitehorse. The owner drove us to Alayuk Adventures. All staff is friendly and open to answering questions.

The ride was smooth and lovely. Soon after it started we were allowed to switch with the guide to drive the sled for a while. It was such a nice experience. I made conversation with my guide throughout the whole ride, he was very knowledgeable.

If there's only one thing you need to do in the Yukon, go to Alayuk Adventures!
