I live up in one of the communities and recently had to send one of my dogs down to YK to a vet I didn’t know without me… which as a pet parent is TERRIFYING. Dr. Hughes & his team took such good care of my girl until I could get down to be with her for her last day. He was so compassionate in the euthanasia process, made sure I understood exactly what was going to happen at every step and ensured everything was taken care of before I was a basket case. I had her cremated and her ashes arrived beautifully wrapped in a box, accompanied by a cast of her paw (painted and framed ?). Everyone that works here goes above & beyond and we were so impressed by them & incredibly lucky to have such amazing care, especially at that stage. Can’t recommend these guys enough.

OMG worst veterinarin experience ever!!!

Just to make an appointment was a struggle because they don’t check any emails ergo never got a response.

So we went in person to make an appointment to freshen up the early vaccinations, the receptionist took copies of our 2 dog passports, typed everything in and after 30 min we walked out.

We had an appointment starting on Friday 4.10.24 at 1:30pm but a woman with a cat before us had also an appointment at 1:30pm with just one veterinarian that was my first question mark.

We were waiting almost 30min in the room, my husband went and asked the receptionist what is taking so long and she was answering that the Vet had to check our paperwork before he could take care of the dogs.(Note: he did no even had the complete paperwork of the 2 dogs, just a few copys)

After 35 min the Vet finally entered the room.

He wasn’t organized at all (even though he prepared himself for more then 30 min before), in fact we had to wait again for the scanner for reading the microchip which was not ready either (Note: he never checked it)…the assistant had also to get the eye check thing but brought just half of it so we had to wait again for the second piece.

Overall simply: UNPROFESSIONAL!!!

After the 30 min in the exame room (Note: 15 min each dog) he did not even properly examed them because he talked more about US politics instead of doing his job, we had to even ask the Vet at the end if everything is fine with the dogs because he didn’t mentioned anything.

After all of that he took another 10 min to fill out again something and when we saw the bill…i got upset because he just gave our dogs a vaccine we did not talk about at all and that is just not ok!

We were spending almost 2 hours for just a few vaccinations, we never had that before, not even close.

We are not used on having that bad of a customer service and ending paying so much money for just 30 min!

He‘s exame rate is 95.- dollar and for such a high rate my dogs deserve a proper examination which we didn’t had!(Note: did not check ears, temperature, paws etc.)

I confronted him about the waiting time and he was like, „i have to prepare.“(Haha yeah right)

Shouldn’t do that the Vet before your patients are coming in for the exame?

He even lied about the vaccine he did not mentioned (But gave it to the dogs anyway), he said he talked about it with my husband which is impossible, we were together in the room the whole time.

While confronting him he reacted very aggressively, he had no respect for a woman at all and i felt treatened, he just said to me „stop takling“ and „get out“.(Note: my husband left at that point with the dogs already)

So this is how i experienced my visit here, shame on you Michael, you really should be ashamed of yourself.

I cannot say enough about Dr. Hughes and his team and his wife. They are so compassionate and caring about the animals that they treat. Dr. Hughes explains everything about your animal and I feel has gone above and beyond for my two senior dogs. My experience when I needed to let them go was so caring and wonderful I am grateful. My dogs ment so much to me and it was heartbreaking to let them go and Dr. Hughes and his team were so wonderful to us. Thank you so much for your kindness

My dog died in July, and I have to admit that this was the worst experience I've ever had, but coming here only made it worse. I had to pack up my dog and bring him in to be cremated. When we got there, that man took him up and was leaning on him, making comments that he stinks.

My dog was sick puking and having bloody stools all night. After going to the other animal hospital (thinking they would take us right away), they told us we can only be seen in the afternoon. I called Yellowknife Veterinary Clinic and after telling them our ordeal, they took us in right away. The receptionist Kristy was lovely and supportive. When I arrived, I was impressed to know that they have a separate entrance to their examination room, in case your pet might be contagious. Being a nurse, I really appreciate this detail to infection control which I have not seen in any vet clinic EVER! Dr.Hughes was lovely, very thorough, vet competent. He explained what my dog might be going through. Explained every treatment we had to take. I left thinking my dog is getting the right treatment. Thank you so much! Definitely recommend!!

I’ve never seen a vet so compassionate. Our dog has severe anxiety because of a nightmare story that happened to us a few years ago at an other vet. We told Dr Hughes about that and he made sure our dog would be confident around him. It went so well!!! It was our first time seeing him and we are happy we chose this clinic for our dogs.
