Had a really fun family experience with the u drive style. This kennel still runs on cold days because they are the biggest kennel and has dogs who are happy to run and are selected for colder weather. Our original dog sledding was cancelled with another kennel. The team fit us into the schedule on the same day. Despite what it may look like on the outside, dogs are professionally trained and cared for after learning more about the process, like temperature controlled dog house and specially imported food for their energy needs. They have thin coats because they are sprint dogs who need to let heat out. Freight dogs are the ones with thick coats for long distance.
Snowmobiles were right beside us the whole time so we felt safe. Smooth pick up and drop off experience. Had some nice warm drinks at the end.
The owner won lots of awards for sledding and handling, making the place feel really special and professional. They also offer Chinese tour guides which was great for my parents. Overall fun experience!

What a fun experience! Make sure you dress warmly and cover all of your skin so you have an enjoyable ride. Bring hand/toe warmers and consider ski goggles for your eyes (it gets cold on the lake when the dogs are running fast!). The dogs were absolute powerhouses and loved to work. The staff were friendly. I met the owner and you can tell that he is passionate about what he does. I highly recommend booking a tour with Beck’s Kennels.

This is the biggest kennel in yellowknife with around 200 dogs. Their prices are good, but the overall experience left us in two minds.

They provide pickup from hotels at reasonable prices, but there was no orientation about the ride other than asking us to sit in the sled. Once we sat, the dogs were off to a rapid start, stopping only for separating the entangled dogs. We were quite packed in the sled, but once we were on the way, we all were sitting like robots with no place to move or see what was around. The route takes you around a frozen lake, and by the time we made the full circle, we just wanted to get off and go back.

Dogs - we were under the impression that dog sledding kennels use huskies or similar type of large and furry dogs. However, the dogs we saw were quite slim. Maybe there is a different criteria for sled dogs, but we saw many dogs shivering in the tiny kennels. Maybe this is how they are, but that was very strange and unexpected for me.

After the ride, we were dropped back at the office where we got hot drinks, which was a relief. Once we were ready, we boarded the shuttle to go back to the hotel.

Overall it was an ok experience and maybe the individual sleds are a better option than getting packed in a large one.

We took our family of 10 to sled with Beck's and were honored to have Grant as our musher. He allowed our 88 year old aunt to stand on the rail behind. He was chatty, kind and funny. Thanks Beck's. Highly recommend.

It is an experience but I was expecting more. Probably it is just a feeling but it was ok anyways. They do a trip around a a lake and then offers you some hote drinks so go back recover from the cold.
