A little over a year ago I contacted Roy Robinson about a puppy. He was at Costco in Dartmouth when he took the phone call but assured me that he had a puppy available. He took my contact information and I followed up with an email. A few weeks later I contacted him about picking out a puppy, he seemed confused and said he didn't have any available puppies. I reminded him of our conversation and my email. He then said we should come out and see him as he "might" have a puppy available. I told him it was over an hour's drive for maybe having a puppy. He said he had one available. My wife and I went to see him and it turned out that he had several puppies available. He said that he tells people he doesn't have puppies available because sometimes they die unexpectedly -so he keeps some in reserve. He also had another dog that had puppies so he had a whole litter available. He told us that he hadn't know the mother of the 2nd litter was pregnant until just before she gave birth. When we picked out our puppy Mr. Robinson wrote out our receipt but he was very unsure if our puppy had already been sold - up until we picked her out we were uncertain if we would actually end up with the puppy we picked. He seemed very confused whenever we spoke with him. About 2 weeks after we brought our puppy home I received a call from him - he was annoyed that we hadn't picked up our puppy yet. I explained that we already had our puppy. He said he was confused and hung up. Our puppy ended up with a rare genetic disease and had to be put to sleep after having spent several thousand dollars at our vet, the Metro Emergency Vet and the Atlantic Vet College in PEI. My wife wrote to Mr. Robinson to let him know so he would be aware and in case any of the other puppies in that litter became ill. We never heard back from him. She wrote to him out of caring and compassion in case someone else's puppy might be going through the same thing. A reply was never received. We will never recommend anyone gets a puppy from Double R Border Collies.
