Surprises in the town of Kimberley BC, local demonstration of the mining which lasted over 100 years, manual engineered equipment and innovation which was used in different parts of world. Great historical storey telling by the host, who worked in the mine, second generation. We throughly enjoyed this find on our way through.
Bring a sweater as it is in the mountain and probably not for small children, as there is narrative parts. The demonstration is recreated well and site historically correct, with modification for safety. Overall I think it is a great attraction.

Great visit at the mine. We did the two hours tour. Starting up the hill to the mine. Having the chance to meet Bill Robert, min worker for over 50 years. He give us a couples demonstration of mining tools.

You can feel the emotions behind all the story and memories that he share with the group.

The powerhouse was fantastic with a other live demonstration of technology behind the mining scene.

Ok, this is kind of hard to review, but I’ll add my 3 cents.

1. Everyone was friendly!
2. Bill, our mine boss was fantastic, super authentic, knowledgeable and very friendly
3. Train ride was fun, operators we super nice

Now, my 3 cents:
Not worth the over $120 we paid for our family.
Sad that you don’t enter any real part of the mine (understandably, but still 😞)
Some may love the history and experience, but once was enough for me.

Overall, it’s hard to not come away appreciating the history, Bill’s stories & humor.

If you go, keep your expectations low, enjoy the time, and you’ll have fun.

One of the best two hours you can spend in Kimberly. From the moment we were buying the tickets, the reception lady was the most adorable welcoming person ever. She told us a brief history of the mining in Kimberly.
The tour was so exciting. The tour guide was a former miner and such a friendly gentleman. Absolutely recommended.

Tip for the tour: dress properly. You are going to the mine, get out of the train and tour around. The weather in the mine is freezing. Have a jacket with you. Even is hot summer! The floor is wet (like come on, you go to a mine. What do you expect?). Don’t go there with flip flops. Your toes will get muddy and wet.

We brought our young children to the KUMR to enjoy something that you don't get a chance to experience elsewhere. They loved the train ride, enjoyed the beautiful scenery and enjoyed seeing some wildlife along the way. They were a little scared at first of the tunnel as it is very dark in spots, but this is part of the experience. The interpretive part of the train ride was lost on them, but it is very educational and gives a glimpse not only into the local area and this particular mine, but also the life the miners lived. We'll definitely return once our children are a bit older.

This is a train ride and an interpretation center that takes you in a small underground area to show how mining was carried out over the nearly 100 years at the Sullivan mine in Kimberley BC. Actual miners (retired) not only show, but demonstrate some of the equipment used. Inside is much cooler than outside (which is great in the hot summer months) but if you get chilled easily, bring a jacket or sweater. After the mine, the train takes you to the powerhouse where you can see the air compressors, generators and the actual model used in the planning office. Well worth the trip, the tour takes almost 2 hours to complete so plan accordingly.

What a fabulous experience! The telling of the Sullivan Mine's history and experiences by a man with over 35 years of personal experience made it a history lesson worth paying attention to. Travel by rail made the journey easy and even more interesting. Even if this stop might be off your route, take the detour. The over 90 minute experience was priceless.
