I have been a loyal customer of Islington Nurseries for years, spending many, many dollars here (despite it being on the pricier side, we wanted to support an independent business) and recommending it to many friends. On a recent visit, my 4-year-old needed to use the bathroom urgently, and we were told, without apology, that the facilities were “not for customers.” As a result, my child had an accident in the parking lot — a completely avoidable and incredibly upsetting situation for both of us.

I understand that some businesses have policies about restroom use, but there is a basic level of compassion and human decency that was missing here, especially considering this was a small child. Extremely disappointed that a place I once loved showed so little care for their customers. Sadly, I will not be returning, and I will be sure to tell anyone who will listen that this is how they treat their loyal customers.

I have been shopping at Islington Nurseries since 1998, when they were still located at their original store, also on Islington Avenue but further north. This store is a family owned business and has been around for more than 50 years.

The present location has an extensive indoor store, featuring a large selection of indoor and tropical plants, a florist and a wide choice of ornaments for the home and garden.

The garden centre part of the store is really extensive. They have a large perennial selection, also shrubs, evergreens and trees.
Depending on the season, they have an extensive selection of spring, summer and fall pre-planted pots.
At their other store on Evans Avenue, they have a decent selection of aggregates and rocks.
Their prices are reasonable and the quality of their plants and other merchandise is good.
The people that work in the various sections of the place are generally helpful and pleasant.

Excellent experience with Islington Nurseries. They were flexible with my delivery date. Showed up on time and "Super Dave" was able to maneuver the truck in a fairly tight space and drop the dirt exactly where I needed it. Saved me hours of work. Would definitely use them again.

Called the flower shop in Islington Nurseries as I was looking for flowers for my wife’s birthday. Amanda the florist took my call and put together this beautiful arrangement. She was so helpful and I could tell she was genuinely sincere and loves what she does. Picked up the flowers within the hour and also added a balloon to it. She suggested it, and it made the flowers pop more. Would definitely come back and get special occasion flowers from Amanda again.

I am a long time customer of this nursery. They have a great selection of plants/trees, and are generally able to order any specific varieties you're looking for if you give them enough of a heads up. Staff is also very knowledgeable and generally very friendly if you're looking for specific advice. I recently had an issue in store, whilst attempting to claim a warranty on a shrub that had died. The manager, Adam, was very helpful and kind in clearing up that situation, for which I was very grateful. Will continue to shop here and encourage others to also.

I really love visiting Islington Nurseries. The store is on the smaller side but is absolutely packed with everything you need for plants, including the plants themselves! The staff are really knowledgeable and friendly, and their selection is fantastic. I've gotten many plants here and they are all thriving! In the summer they have an outdoor section as well that has a beautiful selection of perennials and annuals. A great stop for any plant lover.

I tried this nursery for the first time yesterday, and met a nice man, Eddie, who was watering the plants. He helped answer sooo many of my questions, and was super friendly. Because of him, I ended up selecting 4 trees to purchase.
We take it to cash to figure out the total and the cashier (older, white lady) was an individual, who in my opinion, should NOT be working at the store front dealing with customers. She was so aggressive and brute in her tone, yelling in her responses to me, speaking over others while we are asking questions. She calls over another female cashier and also abruptly speaks over her and bossing her around, while that girl is trying to help her put through my items. When I asked a question on why delivery was so much, the older lady yells out, "You're Zone 2!!" Alright then, what's a Zone 2, I'm thinking (and I live nearby). I said I will come pick up the trees before closing at 5pm, and she speaks loudly at me saying, "We close at 5pm!". Yes, I know, I will come before that, jeez.
It was only due to Eddie and his amazing, gentle customer service skills that I ended up purchasing close to $500 worth of items. Whatever he advised, I complied with as he was genuine and helpful.
Would I come back to this nursery again? No, because I feel like I'm going to lose my cool if this lady speaks at me like that again. She really needs customer service training or a different posting within the store (not at the front). Sorry!
