I visited Mackay's No Frills for the first time last week.
I have passed by the New Hamburg location many times during my travels along Highway 8, and finally stopped by for groceries. Store was very clean, well-stocked, and staff were very courteous. Great selection of foods, as well as health products (on-site Pharmacy), and some clothes. Fruit was fresh and plentiful.

These reviews are hilarious! I have been disappointed many times by picking up expired food or noticing a fridge that’s not working properly so can’t purchase certain things on my list, which yeah definitely sucks. But it’s a small town store that still has those items for when I’ve run out. And hiring younger employees makes sense considering the demographics of the neighborhood, if it was all retired people it would be way worse because they are, as seen in the comments, not really living in reality. I have definitely noticed that the employees have left ice cream out of the freezer and go for break but they probably just suck and won’t be there long, there’s other people who do care too. I’ve been shopping here for 3 years it’s a bit of a law of averages, so 3 stars.

I wanted to buy 4 bags of salt softener. When i tried to pay for them, the cashier rudely told me that i could only buy 2 as there was limit due to a sell price. I said I didn't care about paying full price as i needed 4 bags, she again was rude and said there was a limit. The most disappointing part is that she asked one of the other employees standing there to watch me and ensure I would put 2 back on the way out. For the most part this store is okay but there is the odd unhappy employee working at this location.

I come here for the competitive prices definitely not the customer service. I was just here for a sale that they’re promoting for the whole month of May and they don’t have any of the product in stock after waiting 15 minutes to find out they didn’t receive the order and after asking many different KIDS whether they have it in stock. Too many kids working. Nobody seems to be in charge.

Absolutely unacceptable and unsafe handling of returns here. I returned a highly perishable item (soft goat cheese) because I noticed the packaging was leaking when I went to use it today. A few minutes after doing the return I was in the cheese section to get a new package, and saw one of the employees putting the cheese I had just returned back on the shelf. I knew for certain that’s what he was doing because I had returned something else with it and he was holding that item as well. They have no idea how that item was stored in the days between when I initially purchased and returned it today - for all they know I could’ve had it sitting in my hot car for days. Also - it was returned because it was damaged!! Why is it going back on the shelf!?

This is also THE THIRD TIME I’ve seen them put my returns (which I’ve only ever returned because of a concern like faulty packaging) back on the shelf. I’ve returned 3 things over the last year and it’s happened EVERY time.

The last time it was PERISHABLE, refrigerated chip dip - which I returned because the tinfoil seal was defective - and I watched them put it back on the shelf that time too. I wrote that off thinking it might’ve been a one-off and just a random employee’s mistake, but today it was different employees and confirmed that this is clearly the actual process they have in place - which I cannot believe. If I can report it, I will.

Absolutely unsafe, irresponsible, and greedy - people could get VERY SICK from practices like this.

Went to No frills the other day and can honestly say that I am so impressed with how this place looks. I’ve been here many times before but this time everything was so neatly organized, clean, had fresh produce and amazing customer service. Will always go out of my way to come to this no frills!

Huge improvements lately. I'm assuming new management. It's cleaner and seems more organized. I avoided this place before, but I'll shop here more often now.
