Had an issue with a battery mower. Tried to exchange for another of the same, but the associate told me that the brand I had bought was extremely low quality, so I shouldn't get another. I was then told I shouldn't buy an electric mower at all. An associate then tried to show me their gas-powered and plug-in mowers.

They then offered me $100 off a different battery mower. However, that was after listening to them confirm that said mower was going on sale for a $120 discount soon anyway.

After that I tried to just get my cash back, but they didn't have $380 in the till or in the safe in the back, so they asked me to just trust them and said they'll call me tomorrow when they have the money for me.

The entire time, I was just getting the impression that I'm really putting them out by asking them to do this for me and for not jumping at the opportunities they're offering me.

The customer experience bothers me more than the broken mower ever could have, and I don't think I'm willing to risk repeating it the next time I need to return something to this place.

A lovely staff member (i think her name was Marie) went above and beyond, helping me find some crates when I couldn't find them anywhere else. She was extremely busy, but made it a top priority to help out!! A big thanks to home hardware making my small business display work out on a budget!! Love these, thanks again for helping out the community!

Unfortunately, due to the tiny backpack I was wearing (is my purse and is smaller than the average purse) I was not allowed in unless I left it with the cashier. So, they can’t trust me and my tiny backpack but I’m supposed to trust a stranger enough to leave my purse with them!! Not to mention it was the third time this week I’d been in with my backpack. I get there are rules, but then shouldn’t they be implemented every time?
Also, common sense?
I guess if I slung it over one shoulder like a purse it would have been ok?
Anyway, headed over to Canadian tire and spent my money there.
Sadly I’m local to Saanichton and would rather support local 😢🤷‍♀️

The staff I have spoken to are amazing. The guy in the paint section I spoke to helped me decide what I was going to do, with my frugal ways and options running through my head. I asked questions and he definitely helped me buy what I needed. I treated my new shed with green stain Because I got it for free and I hate the colour. I wanted to somehow see what I could do to change the colour. he helped me decide what I needed to do in the cheapest most efficient way until the spring when I can put the coat on I want. The wood treatment will still remain but the green should be significantly muted.

My go to Hardware store now, even though I live by the Gorge.My first time shopping there was a couple of months ago. I phoned to see if they had a particular wheelbarrow I was looking for that was on sale and they did have it. They held it for me until the next day and when I went to pick it up it was ready and waiting all assembled. Today I was looking for 2 anti gravity chairs. I called and they had them. They told me they were going to be going on sale soon, but they would sell them to me at the sale price. The staff on both occasions have been so friendly and helpful. There is such a good atmosphere in the store. It reminds me of how small family owned businesses were years ago (I know they are one of a chain, but it is the best way I could express my experience with them) They have just about everything you could need and their prices are very reasonable. Thank you for my excellent shopping experiences.

Have made good use of this hardware store since we moved back to the Island in 2018. Up to this point it has been great to deal with their staff. We have bought a wide variety of "stuff" from them ranging from step ladders, garden hoses and tools, kids' paddling pool, Christmas lights, painting supplies and the list goes on and on. Well not any more! I had bought some soaker hoses for our garden last summer (this overall hardware chain changed from a flexible light green hose to a stiffer dark green hose-I have used some of the light green ones for many years now with no problems) and this year when I unrolled the newer dark green ones a number did not seem to work anymore. Took the time to test them all after installing them and some of them worked sporadically. Took them back hoping to get some replacement hoses but the current manager was not interested in doing that. She felt they worked when her staff tested them (why would I waste my time installing them, testing them, find they did not water my flower beds on a consistent basis and bring them back if they did in fact work like last summer and like the light green ones!?). Sorry you have lost a long time customer and like many customer service examples dismissing a long time customer is usually why people leave, tell others about my experience and post POOR reviews like this. Please remember stores like Eatons, Woodwards, Zellers, Sears, Target and now the Bay who were major retailers but have closed partly because of POOR attitudes like this.

What a great store. All of the staff were super friendly, especially Patty the Store Manager. She made sure that everything that we were buying worked perfectly, and she even checked each one with fresh batteries for us. And she even enticed us into buying a 12 foot inflatable Santa Claus that we had seen and loved! We had been eyeing the large sample on display at the store's front entrance, and had mentioned it to her. After our conversation, we just had to buy it. What a good saleswoman! I think we will be the talk of the neighbourhood over the Holidays with our massive inflatable Santa in our front yard! Thanks again Patty. We hope to see you again soon.
