Even though our reason for going was very very sad, the stuff they were very compassionate caring and understanding. Instead of just handing us our pet over the counter, may he rest easy, the lady walked around to the side and discreetly handed him to us in his new resting space. Unfortunately, we lost our healthy Australian Shepherd following an allergic reaction to medication that was administered at this clinic during preparation for a surgery. Though the reaction to the medication was not foreseen by any of us (veterinarian included), the events that followed ensured that I will never use Dr. Lawrence’s services again. The communication that we received from Vegreville during our pet’s emergency was extremely poor, with the initial phone call only informing our family that our dog had some respiratory issues and had been pulled out of surgery. My family drove over 45 minutes to the hospital with little information about the severity of the situation. When they arrived (I joined remotely via video chat), we were told that our dog was stable, breathing on her own, and responding to some stimulation, but that she was in a ‘coma-like’ state. There were no emergency protocols in place at the clinic and Dr. Lawrence initially suggested that our family take our chances and transport my dog (with a breathing tube in place) to the closest emergency clinic, since no vet or staff member would be present after closing time (it was a Thursday before a long weekend). In my many years of working with veterinarians, I have never known a vet that would not have dropped everything and stayed by the side of their patient in this extremely rare situation if it had happened under their supervision. The initial impression that I was left with was that Dr. Lawrence’s long weekend was more important than my dogs’ life. In addition, from reading the medical records, we found out that our dog was not stable during the time that my family was in their hospital and was in fact hyperventilating and experiencing limb rigidity. At the time, none of this was ever communicated to us. The severity of her situation was glossed over and the doctor never discussed whether or not humane euthanasia may be the best option at the time. After I provided the suggestion, 2 staff members eventually took the time to drive our dog to the emergency clinic while she was monitored on oxygen. I am very grateful for the compassion of those 2 staff members. She survived a few more hours at the emergency clinic, but the emergency doctor was very up front with us and communicated that she likely had brain damage and could not be saved. The days following the ordeal were unbearable as our family grieved and were left with zero answers about what happened. On Monday, four days later, and only following an email from myself indicating how disappointed I was with the lack of communication from the doctor, we finally received an email and call from Dr. Lawrence. This delay in communication was unacceptable. We still have very few answers about this situation, as no vet recommended a necropsy. We received sympathy cards from both the emergency clinic and our local vet following our dog’s death, yet we received no card from Vegreville. Again, this communicated to us that there was very little care following the situation. I will never use Dr. Lawrence for another animal, as I do not believe that he had the capability of communicating properly during and after an emergency. It is sad to say that he has shaken any trust that I will have for veterinary professionals in the future. I will forever wonder if my beautiful girl was aware of the suffering that her body endured and question myself every day if I could have made a better decision had her condition been explained thoroughly.

I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Josh Lawrence and the whole Vegreville Vet clinic staff.
From the time our dog was referred for TPLO surgery, until the time they did their 4 day check up with him, the clinic staff were friendly, helpful and very professional. We felt like we were a team in the care of our beloved dog.
The vet, Dr. Josh Lawrence was helpful and patient beyond expectation for our questions. He did a fantastic job of the major surgery for our pup.
Heather (I think) the vet-tech who did the follow-up care and questions was also amazing.
Our dog is doing very well (much better than expected) and for almost $2000 less than some more local clinics.
We're super impressed with the care and service here and would absolutely recommend them to any other animal owner.
As for the 1-star review done by Kayla, allergic reactions happen and are unfortunate, as well as (sometimes) untreatable. We're sorry for your loss.

We LOVE veg vet! We have a multitude of animals and they have helped us through it all! They have a great staff that is willing to learn with you. Dr. Gracynn has always been so open to the crazt stuff we come to her with. So happy to have them in our corner.

I was really happy with everyone there. They are quite busy, so you don't get that fuzzy importance you might get with the smaller communities, But I was very happy to get a call a few days after the little guy went in for his change. They actually took a moment to listen! Impressed! (I've forgotten your name, sorry)
