We adopted our new pup from the Alliston and District Humane Society! From start to finish the experience was wonderful! The staff and volunteers there are amazing! If you are looking for a new pet, reach out to them or visit their open house at the end of each month!

Smooth experience and very nice people.

For those at the shelter who remember Nova, she is a proud and confident young lady now who is turning 1 on Monday. We really hit the jackpot with her traits. Her favourite thing to do is to hand wrestle with a towel for protection. As soon as the towel comes off she's back to being gentle immediately.

I adopted my kitten this year from them, since the beginning they were very nice and organized. She was very well taken care of while she was with her foster mom.
The description they wrote for her is still her personality, I am so thankful for Alliston Human Society that rescued Grogu( previously Maria “Marie”).

The welfare of animals is a clear priority at this mainly volunteer run, and greatly underfunded shelter. And there are dogs of all types and temperaments waiting for homes. Just like humans, no 2 are the same.

To those whose experience was not what they expected, keep in mind that they do their best to assess dogs before they are adopted out and don’t have a gazillion dollars to hire trainers etc. If you and your new family member need training, this will be your responsibility (it’s kind of like couples coaching, it’s worth the investment if you actually care).

These animals need patient homes who can keep in mind that something traumatic must have happened for them to end up where they are. It’s your responsibility to research breeds before you adopt, and if you don’t have time to get to know your dog, don’t expect the dog to conform to your rules.

If the dog you take home isn’t a perfect fit, don’t blame the shelter. Animals aren’t a pair of shoes you can toss aside just because the colour doesn’t match your outfit that day.

If you are looking for a perfectly programmed creature, get yourself a stuffed toy or a robot. The animal doesn’t owe you anything and neither does the shelter who has done their best to take care of them.

Don’t blame animals for what they have been through, open your heart and realize you are saving a life
this takes patience and loyalty. Be the human they need
a loving parent who gets that, like you, they are not perfect and they have a past no one will ever know but them.

Consider attending an open house.

I wanted to take several dogs home with me, because I know what it’s like to be abandoned. It was clear the shelter was full to capacity and didn’t have enough volunteers. Most of those dogs were clearly eager to find forever homes that will love them. Some of them are even looking for a human to protect
. Dogs need a purpose!

By and large, humans don’t deserve the love that dogs give out. If you are lucky enough to have that love in your life. Thank God for the gift, and open yourself to growing with them.

Dogs love way harder than humans. Open your heart and learn to truly love them in return. It’s more than worth it. 💕💕💕

We get our Christmas family photos done here annually since being a foster fail & adopting our dog. Reasonably priced and the money goes to a good cause. The adoption process was so smooth! The people that work here really care about the animals!

My partner is allergic to cats, and when we moved in together I decided to have my kitty Luna given for adoption. The Staff at Alliston Humane Society were sooo welcoming and Helpful. Everyone there is AMAZING. I wish i was there to adopt rather than leave my kitty but seeing how Professional they are, reassured me I was leaving her in good hands. They kept in touch with me throughout the adoption process.
I really want to thank Fay for ALL the pictures she sent me of my Beloved kitty. I Highly endorse and support Alliston Humane Society for all their activities.
Thanks again Alliston Humane Society for helping me with this difficult decision. I know my kitty Luna made someone’s life happier.
