If you want to walk a straight wide line on pavement then this is an easy way to walk among the trees. Wheelchair and baby pram friendly. The trees and wild flowers (in June), lining the path were pleasant.
There are signs indicating strictness about cleaning up after your dog. Lots of dogs being walked.
About 20 - 30 minute to walk from parking lot to ocean beach and return. Ends at a very unscenic industrial area. Bench at beach.
The bird sounds along the way were pleasant. This trail is not for people that are used to hiking in the woods, because this is absolutely just a straight paved trail through undisturbed willows.

A beautiful, quiet sanctuary minutes from downtown Campbell River alive with many varieties birds & nesting bald eagles.
Beautifully kept easy trails through Nootka Roses, Ninebark, Maples, old Firs & Cedars.
Most often the dog & I have the whole Baikie Island to ourselves but there’s never more than a few other people.
Peaceful.

Not the easiest place to find, unless you grew up in the area. Hard to find access road, would be great if the city would post a sign at the hwy turnoff. Parking lot has maps and info. A short walk that is wheelchair accessible.

Awesome place to go and get away from everything. So close to downtown CR and plenty of parking. Dog and family friendly.

EARTH DAY
I went to Baikie Island. Note on the far shore is much gravelly sand in which they will plant much more indigenous plants to restore it to the way it likely was before logging, booming grounds, beehive burners and the like. It is a beautiful serene walk.

I was a member of the Comox-Strathcona Regional Board when it was donated to the city by a forward thinking Raven Lumber and negotiated by Keith Hudson, then Chairman of CSRD

Turned off by the dogs running free, maybe owners thought all they needed was to have the leash on not actually holding on to it!. Smelled like dog poo and lots of poo bags sitting along the walkway! Didn't consider it a nature trail should be labeled dog walking area. Won't be back! Really didn't want to give it any stars as a nature preserve.

Part of a great trail network, reclaimed wetland, art along the way...seems like a 'not to be missed' kinda deal.

👍So, I didn't. And am I EVER GLAD!👍

Do the River Trail. Stop at the estuary bench and have snack while you listen to birds and steep in the vib.

Thoroughly recommend this. I Ebiked. Would be a nice long walk to do the whole experience. Starts in town. 🌞☮️🙋
