Make sure you use Apple Maps not google maps, we were thrown off bc the trail was not correct on google maps. When we went (May 24) about 50-60% of the trail was covered in snow so be prepared. Overall it was easy, but the last portion quickly gained elevation and was a bit steep on the gravel. Took about 35 min to walk up, and about the same down since we stopped for photos.

We went on a Sunday in May and still there was snow on the trail. Please be carefull while walking as its slippery.
The walk is 45min one way and its easy. As we get closer its more elevation. Worth doing once.

My experience at Bowen Lookout, located in Cypress Mountain, was simply spectacular. Just a 45-minute drive from downtown Vancouver, this lookout offers one of the most stunning views of Howe Sound and Bowen Island.

The trail is short and accessible, with a round trip distance of approximately 4 km and an elevation gain of 110 meters. While it features some inclines, it’s suitable for most fitness levels. The hike takes you through lush forests, offering moments of tranquility before reaching the lookout.

It’s important to note that during the melting season, the trail can become very slippery due to ice and snow. I highly recommend bringing spikes for your boots to ensure safety and stability along the way.

Upon arriving at the viewpoint, I was rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a picnic, take photos, or simply marvel at the natural beauty surrounding the area.

Many hikers highlight the ease and visual reward of this trail. It’s perfect for those seeking a quick escape from the city without compromising the quality of the experience.

In summary, Bowen Lookout is a hidden gem that combines accessibility with spectacular views. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to connect with nature and enjoy a refreshing hike near Vancouver—just make sure to come prepared for the trail conditions!

The bowen lookout trail offers a hike that is harder than a walk in the park but is very beginner friendly. The first section is pretty flat but then there are some steeper sections which have more of a gravel texture so need some extra caution. The trail isn’t too long and offers really nice views. More experienced hikers can continue upwards on a couple different paths. Overall a family friendly hike.

Nice 1.5-2 hour hike. Parked at the cypress lodge and hiked our way to this easy hike. Not a walk in the park- there’s a 500m stretch that has an elevation, rest is flat. And if you’re going now- especially until the end of June, you will still see the ice. If you go between July-October, it’s the best. Ample parking space available. Hiking shoes/shoes that have a strong grip- recommended- loose gravel on the way.

Bowen Lookout offers a relatively short but rewarding hike. The trail begins with a mostly flat path but becomes steeper as you progress. At the lookout point, you're often greeted by colorful birds and playful squirrels, adding to the charm of the spot. Unfortunately, the day we went was hazy, so the views weren't as clear as we'd hoped.

On the way back, wevnoticed some loose rocks along the trail, especially in the steeper sections. It’s a good idea for everyone to be cautious and watch their footing on those parts. Overall, Bowen Lookout is a great hike, but be prepared for a bit of a challenge!
