I went to this nursery during the 50% off tropicals sale. Most of the plants were completely dead or close to dying. I drove from Victoria to Metchosin, and was sorely disappointed with the selection. The outdoor plants were scorched by the sun and beyond dead. The indoor plants were so dry they are close to dying. This can be avoided by regular watering! I found 2 peperomia that were healthy enough to keep alive and take home at insane discount, but the snake/monstera/fern plants left, were all so close to death all I could do was pray they are picked up by someone before they met their untimely death. RIP to all of those shrubs, cacti and any other plant unfortunate enough to find their demise there. Very poor ownership to have so many plants there but allow them to die like that.

Just finished the best wreath making workshop. The staff was so honouring of everyone’s process in making a wreath. Great instructions, amazing items to add to the wreath. Absolutely wonderful experience and loved seeing the Grinch there too.

We picked up a few blueberry bushes for the garden this spring. The staff were happy & friendly (increasingly rare in COVID times it seems). They gave me some great advice and answered all of our many un-blueberry-related questions too with great enthusiasm. They clearly love what they do. I will definitely be back if we happen to need something else garden related down the road.

Unlike the other reviews posted here, ours is for the construction of a deck. We called DTE to quote a retaining wall for our down-sloping backyard. We heeded their advice to avoid this, as the root system for a Garry Oak tree could have been damaged. Plan B was a deck. DTE was very helpful in quoting the project at different sizes and using different materials. We were hung up on the composition of the deck, as I wanted no maintenance, so wood was out. We considered composites, and then settled on Lanai Outdoor Decking. This is a PVC short length (48" x 4 1/2") plank material made in Edmonton that ticked all our boxes: won't fade, bend, lift, scratch, or get too hot in the sun, and it's recyclable.
Trevor is a skilled carpenter, and he produced a rock-solid and attractive deck with full skirting that we are very pleased with. DTE used Victoria Railings for that aspect of the job, and the finished product will give us years of pleasure.
We recommend Down to Earth for deck construction.

My first time here earlier this week I purchased 2 plants for clients. The lady seemed interested that i was a horticulturist and even asked me to tell my landscaper friends about their nursery.

It can happen that the client is not happy with a plant for whatever reason, it’s rare but this time they weren’t happy with the size. When i went to return the plant i was told rather bluntly that there was no returns. Had i known this i would have confirmed the plants with my client before purchase, but no other nursery I’ve come across in town has this policy so i thought nothing of it. This results as a direct loss for my business. When I tried to explain this she just shrugged and said the same thing, no returns. So I will also not be returning, and buyer beware to anyone who does choose this nursery.

I hope you enjoy the profits from my $55 purchase. My business spends thousands of dollars on plants each year. I would have been happy to support you, but it doesn’t seem like you want to support others in the industry. It’s a shame because based off my initial interaction, and the empty parking lot both times I was there it seems like you could have used the business.
