Living at Erin Mills Co-op has been a challenging experience. While the idea of cooperative housing can be appealing, the reality here has fallen shortâespecially in recent times.
Privacy is a major concern. The landlord and maintenance staff frequently enter units for various reasons, often with very little notice. It can be difficult to feel at ease in your own home when there's a constant stream of inspections or repairs.
Maintenance is another ongoing issue. Many of the units are in poor condition, and repairs are often done with the cheapest possible materials. You may report a problemâsuch as mold or broken tilesâand either be told the necessary materials arenât available or find that the issue resurfaces shortly after being "fixed." My own bathroom is a good example of this ongoing neglect.
Since the passing of Moby, the former manager, the quality of management has significantly declined. The current leadership appears overwhelmed or ill-equipped, relying on low-cost labor that does not resolve long-standing issues properly. Renovation appointments are poorly spaced, and many units remain in a deteriorating state.
Additionally, there has been a noticeable shift in the tenant community, and unfortunately, some disruptive behavior has made the environment feel less safe and peaceful. A lot of weed smokers, crazy people are increasingly renting spaces in this apartment building. Too many unruly kids with no proper training are increasing in this apartment, so the peace we used to experience is diminishing.
A lady that recently moved to my floor is fond of smoking weed and shisha, playing loud music (with her door wide opened just to irritate other tenants. She is fond of banging her door loudly. She is so disruptive and annoying that I have resorted to taping my doors with duct tape to prevent her irritating weed and Shisha smoke from entering my apartment. Sadly, I have a child that is asthmatic, this condition is making living here a living hell for my family.
If you value your privacy, peace of mind, and well-maintained living space, I would advise thinking carefully before moving in. This co-op has potential, but without significant improvements in management and maintenance, itâs headed in the wrong direction.
