Local Joe doesn't have any idea who left trash, but police have a long tradition of leaving wreckage behind when they demolish camps, and logging roads blasted into the watershed are the primary access for convenient dump sites. Much more likely scenarios than any "environmentalist" packing it in for a look at the trees.

Old growth is important ecological infrastructure. Even if the only way you can understand the world around you is to ask what it's done for you lately, trees provide more "services" than carbon sequestration, even as they age. This doesn't require human "management" (the industry sales term for logging) any more than the bottom of the ocean does.

I find it very hard to believe that pack it in and pack it out is not a thing here. There are several on here carrying on about the beautiful forest, then all they do is trash it with garbage and make it a garbage dump. New trees make more oxygen than old trees, and this forest needs managment or it will only die.

Stand up for protecting southern Vancouver Island‘s last intact temperate rainforest! Here from Vienna/Austria, I can just hope that your road blockade can prevent this jewel from being destroyed. Even though I‘ve never even been there, I‘m convinced this is one if the most unique landscapes on earth. It has to be preserved!
Also, opening it to sustainable tourism or sth. like that will pay off a lot more for your industry as well, how can’t your government see that?
Stay tuned activists, the generations to come will be so thankful for your efforts!

Please don't log the forests😭 As the Victoria gets bigger and bigger and the trees get cut down we are going to be stuck with yucky city air. I've never been up to Port Renfrew but its a place I need to visit one day! Its so important. Those trees are ancient! Its like throwing out and old artifact from the Middle Ages or Ancient times! The forest out there is a natural museum and we should learn to preserve and take care of the trees. Thank you.

Fairy Creek is the last intact Old Growth watershed on southern Vancouver Island and part of the last 2.7 % of old growth in BC. The trees are incredible and the rich biodiversity is what makes rain, deacidifies the rain, extracts nitrogen that then feeds the kelp, salmon and orcas. It is magical and the people who are defending the land are so kind and welcoming. Thank you to the Pacheedaht people who has taken care of this place for thousands of years. May it last forever and help mitigate climate change.
