This is an amazing organization, run by passionate and hard working volunteers! We adopted our sweet cat Thistle (previously "Muffin") in 2023 and we are grateful everyday for the hard work the staff at GDHS put into rehabilitating her. With their kindness and dedication, Thistle went from death's door to healthy and ready to join our family. Thank you so much, GDHS and staff! ❤️

We spoke with Heidi for most of our adoption of our 2 kittens and her and the other staff were amazing. Answered all of our questions and the adoption process was seamless. They have many cats waiting for their forever homes and I highly recommend the Gananoque & District Humane Society for the next furbaby member of your family.

What a great group of people caring for these cats! They were so helpful and patient as I tried to decide which of the older cats would go home with me. Because they’re allowed to roam freely, it feels like you’re visiting them in their home. You can see their personalities!

The Shelter is very clean and bright with loads of cat trees and cat beds. Cats and kittens are free roaming so it's easy to interact with them and see how they are around other cats and people. The volunteers are friendly, helpful and it's easy to see how much they love what they do. This is a No kill Shelter which takes in many cats that might not be wanted by other Shelters, and will go as far as they possibly can to find every cat/kitten or dog, their perfect Forever home. I feel honoured to be one of the team of volunteers.

The only non profit, donation based shelter we have... Might I add they do not uthenize the animals !!
This organization needs attention, credit and of course donations.
I can't ask the community enough to reach out!

I do not work there, but after finding some kittens and not having a place for them in my home, my heart was simply not going to make the cut. I decided to take my afternoon, bring a donation and help out !
I couldn't believe some of the stories these little guys had, and to know they are safe and being looked after.
I couldn't believe that all the staff around me we're volunteering to help out, they have a cat named Willow who is 18 years old happy and healthy 😽
I can't believe they make it work!

If you're not a cat person who cares, if you hate them and want them out of your yard... you should be making the effort to help! These are the people who are trying to make that happen.

These little guys deserve so much more then what they have been given for a life! They didn't ask to be dumped on the side of the road, or to be left I'm the city you moved from, they just want love !

I was absolutely disappointed in the care given if any for the cats. Litter was full in every single cat home. It smelled really bad everywhere. Cats look unhealthy. To me it looked like pure laziness by staff. I have a cat and if I had the room I would of taken all of them or if I had access to the care they needed I would of done it. Unfortunately it's not my place to do but is my observation. My daughters left crying. That shouldn't be. People donate more then enough food and litter to never have those boxes full. It's not hard to change a few times a day for multiple cats. I hope this changes fast otherwise the cats will get sick just being in there.........
