Very nice place to walk and see the rapids and the locks and bridge closer up..lots of birds and wildflowers and lookouts and beaver dams and....so much more!!! 🤗

Local gem. Fishing, hiking, feeding the birds, or walking the dog, its a beauty. Some of the walkways need to be repaired, but the area is well kept.

A beautiful place to spend a few hours with the kids. We’ve walked across the island until the St. Marys Rapids, where we saw several fisherman enjoying catching fish along the rapids, on foot or by boat. Lots of beautiful plants and birds can be spotted, and several lookouts to take the beautiful views in.

By taking the trail on the Whitefish island you can get to a lookout by the rapid that separates Canada and USA. The rapid also is the waterway between Lake Superior and Lake Huron. Considering how big Lake Superior is you can imagine how much water is constantly rushing in the rapid.

And yes, there were a few fishermen catching whitefish along the rapid bank.

Also, along the trails to the rapid I saw quite a few beaver dams. Couldn't spot any beaver though.

Saw maybe 15 or more species of birds, 10/10 recommended this trail, one of my favourites just to get out and always see an abundance of wildlife

Great place to walk around. Anytime of the year. With great views of the river and the rapids. The rich history whitefish island is complemented by the flora and fauna that surrounds it. Make sure to bring some seed for the friendly chickadees. While there is a fish sanctuary on one side the rapids provide some of the best fishing around.

This place is like a gem in the heart of Sault ste Marie and I am so glad to have had the opportunity to walk through the trails and see all that nature extends here. From forestry to the waters, and even the damns those beavers built. I also had the privilege of hand feeding some small birds which I thought was the sweetest memory yet. Thankfully there were lookout shelters where one could sit and be sheltered from the weather for it did start to rain for a brief period of time, but that didn't last long, and we were on our way to the next trail in no time.
