I studied at Mohawk College and overall, it was a positive and valuable experience. The campus is modern, clean, and offers a creative and supportive learning environment. It’s located in Hamilton, which is a peaceful city with a good mix of urban life and nature. The area around the college is safe and accessible, with nearby transit options, parks, and essential stores — which is helpful, especially for international students adjusting to a new place.

Many professors are knowledgeable and genuinely supportive. Some are absolute gems — they not only teach well but also go the extra mile to guide and encourage students. Their support really helped me stay motivated and focused.

That said, not every professor had effective teaching methods. A few were overly focused on nitpicking during grading or lacked clarity in explaining expectations, which made some courses more stressful than they needed to be.

Despite that, if you're proactive and make the most of what Mohawk offers, it can definitely be a strong stepping stone for your future. 👍

Mohawk, you’ll always have a place in my good memories. ❤️

Very very bad experience for International students. Please read below

Unfortunately, our family member's experience with Mohawk College has been quite disappointing and frustrating.

They applied for a second program at Mohawk College in January 2024 and were informed they would receive their offer letter by June 15, 2024. However, for job purposes they applied for completion letter so, their second program application was initially declined. After discussions with college officials, they were placed on a waiting list until July 15, 2024, with advice to explore alternative college options. Finding alternative college options at this late stage has proven extremely challenging for them.

As a recent graduate, the delay in receiving their offer letter has left them unable to secure employment, posing significant financial challenges as an international student in Canada.

During the recent graduation ceremony, where the college president highlighted institutional achievements, there was no opportunity for students to voice their concerns. It is disappointing that the commitment to provide offer letters by June 15 has been extended due to high demand and limited seats, without prior communication to applicants. As their visa expiration date looms closer, the uncertainty and lack of clarity from the college have added immense stress and anxiety. It's heartbreaking to see them face such challenges, especially as an international student.

If the college administration knew they were receiving a large number of applications this time, why they didn't informed students in advance to suggest applying to other colleges? It's frustrating because now it's too late to explore other options. They also face challenges for their status and work. As a relative of a student who has experienced challenges with Mohawk College, I find it difficult to recommend the institution to others.

Coming from an international student who graduated around two months ago. I went through the bridging programme at Mohawk and am now studying at Brock University in the Accountancy COOP programme.

PROFESSORS & PEERS

Carol and Patricia’s accounting classes were like learning step by step with someone guiding you through all the tricky parts. The assignments and classes matched up perfectly and actually made sense. Most of the time, they even gave us extra materials just to make sure we fully understood everything.

Elliot’s classes were always fun and easy to follow. He has this way of breaking down complex concepts so clearly and straight to the point. Great guy too, with a solid sense of humour and a really strong professional background!

James’s auditing and business info courses were solid as well. I have great respect for the fairness and integrity he consistently demonstrates in his classes. My biggest takeaway from him is to always stay true and fair to others and, most importantly, to myself.

Personally speaking, the professors truly value teaching and genuinely care about their students.

CAMPUS:

The campus is beautiful, full of diverse vegetation, wildlife and plants, with the Royal Air Force of geese on patrol four seasons a year, and in summer, ladybirds casually land on your shoulder to greet you.

(However, in my last one or two semesters, the public hygiene and environment near the main entrance did take a hit due to some students’ careless and deliberate damage.)

The library is also an amazing place to study, I spent most of my time there doom drinking coffee from the Tims express and hustling my way through the course content.

I also like how they divided the library into three zones, the upstairs the talking zone, the main library area downstairs, and a separate ultra quiet space inside the library designed for those who need complete silence, all came with computer access for those in need. There are also other good spots on campus for studying, like the EA area, which is also quite nice, with accessible entertainment options.

As for food, the options are fairly diverse, though the taste and quality might not be to everyone’s liking. Still, with Subway and Tims around, it’s honestly not the end of the world.

My three years there were full of greatness and growth, wasn’t a top student, I failed courses, repeated years, and made mistakes. But I’m genuinely grateful for that time. I made great friends and learnt lessons far beyond the textbooks, from both my peers and professors, which truly prepared me for the future and the Canadian society.

As an international student, my experience at Mohawk College has been deeply disappointing. The level of irresponsibility and lack of support shown toward international students is unacceptable. We pay significantly higher tuition fees with the expectation of receiving quality education and support, but the reality is far from it.

The administration is disorganized, communication is poor, and when issues arise, it's incredibly difficult to get timely or helpful responses. Whether it's regarding academic guidance, visa documentation, or mental health support, the college seems to lack a proper system in place for the unique challenges that international students face.

It often feels like international students are treated more as a source of revenue rather than as valued members of the college community. There’s minimal cultural sensitivity, and the services that are supposed to help us succeed are either underdeveloped or entirely absent.

I expected more from a Canadian institution that actively recruits students from abroad. I sincerely hope Mohawk College reflects on how it treats its international student population and begins taking responsibility for improving the quality of experience we receive.

Mohawk College lost my 1 year Post grad transcripts with honours t... and continues to ignore my emails and refuses to offer me any recourse. Please save yourself time and worry, attended any college but this one, Mohawk has a careless disregard for students records

One of the best places I have studied at.

The Professors are personable and care about students' future and success throughout the school year. I have left the college being future work-ready as I have entered my second career pathway.

I am grateful for the choice I have made, and it was not easy going back to school after being out for over 15 years. If you are thinking - go for it!

Thank you to Mohawk and McKeil Business School.
