The Salt Spring Island Saturday Market is a vibrant, must-see experience! I picked up a jar of incredible Asian chili oil that added serious flavor to everything I cooked that week. Kutatás Wines had a booth with delicious small-batch selections—definitely worth a try. Beyond the shopping, the atmosphere is lively and welcoming. After browsing, I joined a fun group playing Chi Ball in the adjacent Centennial Park. It was such a joyful, energizing way to end the morning. Whether you’re into food, wine, home goods, or community vibes, this market delivers it all.

Nice small town market with many local artisans selling their wares. A wonderful way to experience the island and its people. Highly recommend visiting.

We timed our two-day trip to Salt Spring to include a Saturday so we could visit the weekly market. It was well worth the trip. Tons of vendors selling everything from popsicles to fine jewelry, and a happy, relaxed vibe. Can't wait to return!

We’ve been visiting Salt Spring Island for years and always looked forward to the Saturday market—until this time. What used to feel like a welcoming, community-driven event now feels marked by bureaucracy, heavy-handed enforcement, and an unsettling “not in my backyard” attitude.

The no-dogs bylaw feels out of step with the spirit of the island and the kind of place Salt Spring used to be—open, inclusive, and laid-back. We weren’t even in the market but sitting quietly in the public park, minding our own business with our leashed dog, when we were confronted by an incredibly rude bylaw officer. The tone and attitude were completely unnecessary and frankly, unprofessional.

To make matters worse, when we tried to find someone to speak to—no volunteers were around, no BCSPCA volunteers available , and no one seemed available to offer clarity. While that’s not the volunteers’ fault, it speaks volumes about how poorly this market is being managed by the council and policymakers.

The entire experience left a sour taste. It feels like those in charge have forgotten what makes this place special. A little travel and perspective would go a long way—many communities around the world manage dogs and markets with grace, common sense, and hospitality. Salt Spring could take a page from their book.

This is no longer the Salt Spring we used to know. A real shame.

Great market. The entire market is pretty large and has a good variety of local artists, farmers, artisans, food vendors, and more. There is also some spots for buskers within the market.

It gets pretty busy in the summer at least. Which makes parking nearly impossible so be prepared to have patience.
