I used to Matt’s company to trim down certain branches on larger trees that I cannot reach. The reason I used Matt was because he gave me a solid quote and he also removed a large tree in my yard years ago from the previous owners.

I’m leaving 2 stars instead of 1 because they did a solid job with the rest of the quote but their poor quality of work with one tree will now cost me more money than their whole
job combined. Also, when I reached out to Matt with my concerns he took 0 responsibility for it and did a bunch of gaslighting in his message to me.

I asked Matt to trim down one of my trees because it was blocking the path to my pool. It was a tree I personally loved and filled this space I had perfectly but it would bloom pretty big and it needed a bit of trimming. From my understanding an arborist has the skills to do smaller fine details like this. He put in his quote he would trim that tree in half which sounded fine to me. End of the day he’s the professional, not me. I explained to my concern and he recommended what to do with the issue.

When I got home and saw Matt trimming that tree It looked to me he was butchering it. I questioned him on it and he told me not to be concerned because it will grow back out and start blooming really nicely in the next few months. Nothing like this happened. I let it go until the following year. At the end of the season I had gardeners & landscapers come in and all point to the fact this was a poorly done job and the tree will never be the same again. I reached out to Matt to remedy this and he took no accountability for it. He even had the nerve to tell me I approved the quote and was guiding them on the site as they did the work. Pretty funny considering I showed up when he was in the middle of butchering that tree and I did show him concern. He offered a discount on his services but in no way he will remedy this issue.

I am attaching the photos (1st photo is the before) and the next few are a year later and the last 3 are today. In order for me to replace this tree I have to pay close to 1k which was more than his job because I need to hire somebody to remove the roots and then plant another tree that will take a while to grow to the size of my old tree.

I understand things happen. I am not somebody that will go on and leave bad reviews (it took me 2 yrs to write this) but when you take no responsibility for something you’ve done then it’s not right. You can even meet a person halfway. (Remove the root, I buy the tree for example). Writing to me a whole list of things that can go wrong since it’s a living thing is not necessary.If this tree was not pruned in such an unprofessional manner it would still be standing and blooming beautiful despite all the environmental factors.

We hadn’t planned on removing any mature trees during a current backyard project. Work commenced, and several days in…the job was interrupted, the work stopped, and we needed a 30+ ft tree in a very tight spot to disappear…yesterday.

We reached out to several local companies, left messages, filled out web forms…all to no avail. Not even a response. Frustrating… or rather puzzling, especially for a service business that needs clients. But it is what it is?

We contacted Sequoia (after regular work hours). Craig picked up the phone, listened, was personable and responsive through text exchanges. We provided him the details and some photos of what needed to happen. Within 24 hours, we had an on-site estimate and a service date booked. (Still no word from the other companies.)

We were kept informed throughout. Matt confirmed the appointment and set clear expectations for their arrival. Chad was first on-site the next morning, along with three team members, four in total for the task at hand. They had a rhythm to their operation. It was well-organized and impressive to watch from a safe distance. Honestly, it felt like a show…modern-day magicians. When they finished, we couldn’t even tell the team or the tree had ever been there!

Sequoia made it easy. They were fast, clean, and got the job done right, in a pinch. I love our trees and hope I never have to hire them to remove on again… 😉 But I would in a heartbeat. Actually binding some tall cedars was suggested, so we’ll have them back.

We required a very large and densely branched Honey Locust tree to be pruned and thinned out. Matt and his crew were very friendly, professional, efficient, provided a perfect tree pruning job in addition to a very thorough clean-up. Such a great team. I am extremely impressed and would have hired them years ago if I had known the process would be so seamless and successful. An excellent company which I will highly recommend. Called Sequoia & provided them with pictures of our Autumn Maple Tree that had red dots all over the leaves. He gave me free advise over the phone & told me what products would help the tree & told me there was a nearby Nursery where I could the product.
