I waited for about a month to write this comment. First of all, the plants in this greenhouse are in pretty good health. You can see the roots growing out of the bottom drainage holes of the planters are white without any rot, which indicates a super healthy root system. There is a comment here before from a girl who says this greenhouse is not professional because some plants have sunburn on the leaves. This is wrong. Sunburn on leaves is very minor issue that’s almost harmless. It only means that the plant was given too much sunlight too quickly without proper acclimation.

The only issue is that the outdoor plants are infested with thrips. But to my experience, every time I bring a plant outdoor for more than 2days, there will definitely be some thrips eating the leaves. And I have seen thrips on plants sold in Costco too. So I guess it’s just an inevitable thing here for outdoor plants. My trick for indoor thrips is diatomaceous earth. They will be eliminated after at most 2 weeks of covered in DE. Look at my photos, you can see that the old leaves have wound, but none on the new foliages (the white stuff on the leaves are the DE). Don’t use this outdoor because it will also kill other beneficial insects!! I haven’t seen any other pests other than thrips there. You should quarantine and treat every new plants when you bring them indoor.

The employee there is also very nice, she seems to love plants and own a few houseplants herself.

The price is reasonable, certainly not as low as big box stores, but it’s around the same price range as other nursuries and plant stores.

I bought a philodendron Jose Buono and a small bird of paradise (reginae) here. I didn’t listen to the employee’s suggestion and repotted both of them as soon as I got home, but since the philodendron had just been reported in the greenhouse, and because I tried to remove its “death trapper” (the fabric seed starter wrap), I disrupted its root system a bit too much that it felt like dying in the aroid mix I prepared for it. So I threw it into LECA, and it’s been thriving in the hydroponic solution since then. I also separated the runner babies into different plants, so I have 3 P. Jose Buono now! The bird of paradise is super easy to take care of and immediately sprout a huge new leaf after repotted.

Today, I went to the Van Luyk Greenhouses and Garden Centre to find some plants that could be grafted for a biology project I’m doing. Mr. Shiva, the owner was extremely kind and knowledgeable. He took time in explaining which plants would be best for the purpose. He also gave me lots of tips on how to graft and to ensure the success of the grafts. I’m very thankful to him for his guidance. The garden center has lots of varriety and is well maintained. I had a great experience and would definitely recommend this place for all your plant needs!

They have a good collection of annuals and perennials. I really love the way they arrange flowers and vegetables. I can get 20 plus varieties of tomato and pepper from them. The staff there is very helpful and interactive. This place always give a positive vibe. I was actually surprised after listening to such knowledgeable employee.
I am pretty sure that I will not miss this place in upcoming spring and summer.

I had an outstanding experience at Van Luyk Greenhouses and Garden Centre! My visit was primarily to collect some tropical plants, and I was delighted by the diverse selection they offered. From unique varieties like the brain cactus to captivating specimens like the Venus fly trap, the greenhouse had it all. I ended up purchasing a gorgeous brain cactus and two air-purifying plants – the snake plant and spider plant. The plants were not only well-maintained but also looked incredibly fresh and vibrant. I’ve been going to Van Luyk is a greenhouse for awhile now, they’ve got a wonderful variety of plants and extremely helpful staff. I can’t complain about my shopping experience but what leaves a bad taste in my mouth is overhearing the owner talk poorly about his young employees to other employees… in front of customers? This kind of unprofessionalism and disrespect makes it hard to want to come back. I feel bad for your staff.
