We had an incredible experience with James and his team at Willoughby Ranch. They put together an amazing team building experience with our entire staff (45) which was educational and a ton of fun! I highly recommend them for your next corporate event.

My family and I went to the Willoughby Ranch for Thanksgiving and had an amazing day! James was amazing! He personalized a western day for us to learn a wide variety of skills and made time for us on his Thanksgiving Day! I will definitely be returning! The horses and staff were great! What an amazing place! It's definitely an undiscovered gem! Love, love, love this place!

Beyond genuine people. As a first time rider I was extremely impressed and comfortable at how quickly I was able to learn with the help of the staff. I highly recommend this place for beginners and experienced riders as there always is an option for all.

Beautiful Ranch owned by wonderful caring people. Our daughter rides here, her coach James Davidson is absolutely amazing,caring knowledgeable and professional. She has enjoyed every second there. My husband and I would highly recommend this ranch.

Willoughby Ranch is a beautiful family owned farm offering lessons in equestrian sports, focusing on roping and cattle work and mounted shooting. Barn manager/coach James Davidson works with people of all ages, from young children to teens and adults. Very professionally run, and the care for the horses is amazing. James treats them all as if they are his own ? I board my mare at Willoughby Ranch and I could not be happier! Always a friendly face when you head to the farm!

Beautiful ranch and animals. Lovely owners and staff, who really care about their animals. We went horseback riding for the first time, and had an amazing experience. It's great for children too. Definitely recommend!!

So I contemplated about leaving this review, but I thought why hasn't anyone else been honest about a few things going on, and wish I could have been made aware of these issues beforehand.
First I will say this ranch is the cleanest barn/ranch I've ever stepped into .. ever, they have a beautiful set up for riders, and horses, well kept property, theres a port a potty available , very friendly owners and the instructer James is very nice.. however here's my issues in the only 3-4 months of taking my child there for lessons
1. James is tardy every single lesson, and makes you wait ( not just me I've noticed everyone on make up days as well ) almost an hour or longer from your scheduled start time while he deals with other business with the ranch or personal. Then when he does start the lesson he's not too engaged with his students ( more concerned about upcoming events, or ranch set ups )
2. My child really never learned anything in the 3-4 months of taking her for lessons other than how to pick horse's feet and groom them , as her previous riding skills she learned from another ranch was the only thing taught from western lessons. He took her on trail rides and 1x set up an obstacle course - all nice for a break at first , but I was paying more than previous ranches but getting recreational trail rides that would have been cheaper to do for fun .
3. He cancels lessons, either last minute frequently, changes the your time slot regularly , or waits for you to show up and says " oops I forgot , or didn't know a show would go longer than expected " I even paid for lessons to do with my daughter and only got 1 - which we just went on a trail ride for fun I didn't learn anything other than to again pick hooves.
James did apologize and refund my last lesson , but It was very frustrating being stood up for the last lesson before not returning , after all the other above issues ,
I don't understand why we can't find a good horseback riding lesson ranch in the fort erie/niagara region ( this is the 3rd place ) and we were soo excited and hopeful with this location ( I would even always offer to help out around the ranch even just sweeping as I'm not the type to just stand around while I see people working ) ,
I think he just puts his main focus into his shooting ranges and lessons/clubs but then he shouldn't take on other new kids to just let them down in regards to just regular lessons.
my child has lost interest in this hobby now which is sooo unfortunate , because it could have helped them long term as they struggle with shyness, sensitivity, making friends. Now they are trying a different hobby after doing horseback for 2 years , sucks.. but because there was other mom's complaining of the same issues and not returning but no review being left , maybe they can take this as constructive criticism and work to make it better for other new kids and parents .
