I have been with Don Woods for over 15 years now. Excellent service and staff is always friendly and helpful. I like their monthly payment plan for my propane. It allows me to budget better and gives me peace of mind that my heating cost isn’t going to be a surprise at the end of the year. I highly recommend them!

Be very careful and ask lots of questions. They charged us $280 extra in January for our tank rental because we didn’t use enough propane last year and now they’re charging us $175 to pick up our propane tank that is half full. Provided no contract or details that outlined these policies.

I am on a monthly top up that hasn't happened within the days it's suppose to be for the last 3 months. I have a renter in my place right now and don't live in town so to avoid any problems we are on a top up to ensure that our renter is never without propane. We were on a 28 day top up and got moved to 21 days as we were running low close to top up time. We still seem to run out I had an emergency fill up 2 months ago and again this past month. The last time it happened my renter smelled gas and was worried there was a leak and ended up having to leave for the night and rent a room as she was worried something would happen, understandable. I took a look at my invoices and dates to see what was happening and noticed that although we were on these 21 days and now 14 days according to my invoices they did not come on time anywhere between 26 and 30 days was when they were coming. I had to compensate my renter or the inconvenience of not having propane and her having to leave the house for the night. I connected the company and spoke to Stephan and explained my situation and asked for some sort of compensation on the next top up as all of these issues were due to the fact that they have not followed through on the top ups like they were suppose to.
He was VERY rude saying that in the 9 years that he had worked there NO one had ever complained that they didn't get their top ups on exactly the 21th day or 14th day. He went on to basically say that my renter was crazy to have left the house that smelled like gas and all she needed to do was call them and they would have been out there within the hour to fill the tank that THEY were late coming to fill and that's why we ran into the no propane issue. The smell would have been gone in a few hours and it would have been fine. I said my renter is a woman who lives alone and came home late at night to find a gas smell, to me leaving the house was a reasonable thing to do and then she connected me in the morning explaining what happened.
Stephan was RUDE and have 0 customer service skills basically telling me I was unreasonable to think that their company policy of a 21 day or 14 day top up would be done within the 21 days or 14 days and that these were just estimated times. He did give me a another alternative of renting another tank which a place of my size does not need or an app that would monitor how much fuel we consumed so we can call them when we run out. All this alternatives cost me money taking no ownership over the fact that they don't follow through on what they say they will do.
The worst customer service, very ignorant man I have had to deal with in a long time and this was the manager in the office.

New owners have taken a great business and has made it horrible. Doubled tank rental price, and over priced fuel($1.10/l other places .89/l. Will be glad to leave. To bad, it was a good company. Update Very rude and informed me it's different prices for different people depending on use. Horrible Horrible company now. Avoid at all cost!

Whether it’s rapid responses to emails, or over the phone discussing changes to the account, and now, providing an intuitive new web portal to help clients keep apprised of upcoming payments, the service provided by Don Woods Fuels Propane is outstanding. Everyone there is consistently friendly, helpful and highly knowledgeable!

STAY AWAY!! NOT LOCALLY OWNED!! They are reliable BUT be very careful of their agreements or more simply, their business practices! Since the propane industry is not regulated by the Ont. Energy Board (like hydro, natural gas), they can and do WHATEVER THEY LIKE with pricing! For example, I have been with them for 12 yrs paying $75 a yr for the tank rental. In 2024, with no warning or explanation they INCREASED THEIR TANK RENTAL BY 233% or $250/yr!!! I would strongly suggest using another supplier.

2025 UPDATE: Don Woods Fuel (which for the record in no longer Don Woods Fuel...they were purchased a few years ago by a larger out of town company and just kept the name hoping you'd think they were still owned "locally". They are not.) increased my tank charge another 25%! So now they want $310 per year +hst or $350.30...and that's before any propane is even ordered!

ALSO, they are trying to charge me for in Jan. when I became a customer in April...so they are trying to fraudulently bill me for 3 months I wasn't even a customer!

Time to move on!

I wanted to take the time to personally thank Steven for helping out. I was able to see that the furnace stopped heating and was not sure if we were out of propane or whether the furnace needed to be looked at.
We live 2 hours away. Steven was able to come by and take a look at the propane tanks and help out in a very stressful situation.
Thank you for all of your help. Very lucky to be your clients.
